APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN JOINS SOLUDO TO CALL FOR END OF MONDAY SIT-AT-HOME

APGA NATIONAL CHAIRMAN JOINS SOLUDO TO CALL FOR END OF MONDAY SIT-AT-HOME

Abuja, Nigeria — The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa (Ezenwata Umuchu), has thrown his full weight behind the call by the Governor of Anambra State and National Leader of APGA, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for the immediate and total end to the illegal Monday sit-at-home across the South-East.

Speaking in Abuja, the APGA National Chairman described the sit-at-home as an act of grave economic self-harm imposed on innocent citizens through fear, intimidation, and criminal enforcement. He disclosed that the South-East region loses an estimated ₦20 billion every Monday as a result of compliance with the illegal order, a hemorrhage that continues to impoverish households, cripple businesses, and undermine regional competitiveness. He stressed that no viable or sustainable economy can ever be built on deliberate, orchestrated acts of economic sabotage inflicted by a few against the collective good of millions.

Chief Ezeokenwa noted that the practice has severely disrupted commerce, halted industrial and informal productivity, interrupted education, threatened livelihoods, and steadily eroded the social fabric of the region. He insisted that no legitimate grievance or cause can be advanced by holding one’s own people hostage and repeatedly shutting down their means of survival.

He commended Governor Soludo’s courage, clarity of purpose, and people-centred leadership in confronting the menace head-on, emphasizing that governance must never surrender public order, economic life, and civic authority to non-state actors. According to him, the primary responsibility of government is the protection of lives, property, and lawful enterprise, and any action that intentionally shuts down productivity, deepens poverty, and normalizes fear cannot be justified under any guise.

The APGA National Chairman further warned against the growing use of fake, malicious, and AI-generated propaganda materials circulated to instill fear and enforce compliance with the sit-at-home. He issued a clear caution to individuals and groups who aid and abet terror through the spread of false information, stressing that such actions constitute a direct threat to public safety, social stability, and the rule of law, and will not be tolerated.

Chief Ezeokenwa emphasized that the sit-at-home does not reflect the will, culture, or aspirations of Ndi Igbo, who are historically known for enterprise, resilience, creativity, and industry. He warned that continued compliance only emboldens criminal elements while punishing ordinary traders, workers, students, professionals, and families who desire peace, dignity, and progress.

He reaffirmed APGA’s unwavering support for Governor Soludo’s resolve to restore normalcy on Mondays in Anambra State, describing it as a necessary and patriotic step to reclaim civic authority, revive economic confidence, and sustain the Governor’s vision of building a livable, secure, and prosperous homeland for Ndi Anambra. He called on community leaders, traders’ associations, youth groups, religious institutions, and traditional rulers to stand firmly with the government and resist intimidation in all its forms.

Chief Ezeokenwa concluded by urging Ndi Anambra and the wider South-East to choose courage over fear, law over lawlessness, productivity over paralysis, and hope over despair, noting that no society can develop when its economy is repeatedly shut down by coercion.

He assured that APGA remains steadfastly committed to democratic values, lawful governance, economic revival, and the protection of the people’s right to live, work, and prosper in peace.
