Abuja, Nigeria – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, today presided over a pivotal National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. The meeting underscored the party's internal democratic practices, providing a platform for collective decision-making and reaffirming APGA’s commitment to its core mantra of leaving no one behind, ensuring the party remains united and focused on its vision.
The high-profile meeting was graced by the National Leader of the party and Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo CFR, alongside the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim. Also in attendance were the former National Chairman of the party, Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye; members of the Board of Trustees (BOT); members of the National Working Committee (NWC); the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, who is also a BOT member; members of the National and State Assemblies elected under APGA; and other key stakeholders of the party.
In his opening remarks, Barrister Ezeokenwa welcomed NEC members, expressing his appreciation for their steadfast dedication to APGA’s ideals and their support for the DRIVE agenda under his leadership.
Barrister Ezeokenwa also called for reconciliation among party members, emphasizing the need to heal divisions following the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming his leadership. “Reconciliation is key to our success as a united front,” he stated. “We must move forward as one family, ready to confront the challenges ahead with courage and clarity of purpose.”
Ezeokenwa stressed: “Our core mantra, leaving no one behind, has been at the heart of our initiatives. This ideology is vividly reflected in the policies and achievements of the Solution Government in Anambra State. In the past 33 months, under the exceptional leadership of our National Leader, who is APGA’s greatest asset, Prof. Soludo, we have witnessed transparent and prudent management of resources. Despite not resorting to borrowing, we have seen transformative projects and policies that directly impact the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society. This is governance with a human face, and it is the type of governance APGA offers Nigerians at every level of governance.”
Barrister Ezeokenwa also took the opportunity to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law, as witnessed during the APGA leadership disputes. He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its professionalism and its poise in restoring confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
The APGA National Leader, Professor Soludo, addressing the gathering, highlighted the strategic importance of the NEC in shaping the party's future. “The NEC is the heartbeat of our party’s decision-making process,” he noted. “It is a platform for charting our course and reaffirming our commitment to the values that define us.”
The Governor further emphasized the responsibilities that come with his role as National Leader. “My position is not a ceremonial title but a call to action,” he said. “I am committed to positioning APGA as a formidable force in Nigerian politics. This entails expanding our influence, promoting strategic growth, and ensuring that APGA becomes a truly national party that resonates with Nigerians across all regions. We must speak a language of hope and progress that unites our people.” Soludo, who stated that APGA is the foremost progressive party in Nigeria, noted that in Nigeria, all progressives are uniting. He commended President Tinubu GCFR for appointing a member of APGA’s Board of Trustees as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu commended Governor Soludo for his influence on her appointment as the first APGA minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, even more so as a member of APGA's BOT, urging members that APGA's strength lies in its foundation of integrity and service. “We must protect this legacy and continue to inspire confidence among Nigerians,” she said.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe commended the party leadership for its proactive approach, which has transformed it into a dominant progressive party in Nigeria. There were other notable speeches from different stakeholders of the party.
The National Executive Committee (NEC), APGA's highest decision-making body after the National Convention, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Soludo. The body expressed deep appreciation for his exemplary leadership, both as the National Leader and for his transformative achievements in Anambra State. They praised him as a global leader whose governance model deserves to be studied. Additionally, the NEC passed another vote of confidence in the Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa-led National Working Committee (NWC), commending his innovative approach in steering the party toward greater unity and progress, among other motions resolved by the NEC.
The meeting concluded with members reaffirming their collective commitment to upholding APGA’s legacy of service, progress, and development-focused leadership.
